Annie and Mick O’Riley, owners of Eureka! Beads and The Glass Shoppe have been producing glass for over 28 years. The O’Riley’s obsession with the beauty and clarity of glass is now available over the net or at their studio shop and seconds outlet. Beautiful hand spun glass beads, molten vases and paperweights, handcrafted glass jewellery and a wide range of “seconds” glassware make this shop the perfect day trip from Melbourne. With 144 square metres of glass beads, semi-precious stones, findings and beautiful blown glassware, why not make a trip out to Toomuc Valley to visit Eureka! Beads.
Both Mick and Annie O’Riley were drawn to glass as a medium from an early age. Mick started a business making art glass windows whilst living in Upper Beaconsfield in the 1970‚Äôs. Annie started hunting semi precious stones with
her family when she was only 4 years old. With the help of a friendly owner of a local jewelry shop she polished the stones and turned them into jewelry to sell at school fetes and market days. In the late 1960‚Äôs glass beads became fashionable and she was found frequenting some of the wonderful bead shops in California and across the US. In the mid 1970‚Äôs, Annie and Mick met and it was a match made in heaven when Annie immigrated to Australia and O’Riley Glassworks was born. Originally in Upper Beaconsfield, the O’Riley’s eventually moved down to Toomuc Valley (near Pakenham) in the 1980′s, and continued the business at their new location. Now known as Eureka! Beads, the business is focused on beads and jewellery making supplies.
Mick and Annie now spend a fair amount traveling the world in order to source the best products to bring back to
their customers. Helping them along the way are daughters Bobbi and Charlotte. Charlotte is kept busy as shop manager, organising all the comings and goings associated with local and interstate craft shows, online promotions and in store promotions. On the other hand, Bobbi is self confessed travel addict, and spends a majority of her time traveling the world in order to help source products for the shop. She is also in charge of keeping the large internet store running smoothly. Open seven days a week, both shops runs efficiently with the help of 8 friendly bead-loving staff.
As well as our retail shops, we also sell online and at craft shows around Australia. Eureka! Beads’ online store has been running for over 5 years, and has a huge range of beading supplies. Our real specialty is glass
beads – we have over 500 different types in a large range of colours currently available online. We are well known for our unique animal glass beads, including frogs, chooks, ducks, pigs and fruit and vegetables. We also have a varied selection of other beading supplies, including metal findings, stringing materials, metal beads, tools, semi precious beads, charms, cats eye beads and much more. Just recently we have started to stock an extensive range of Swarovski crystal, including the new xilion-cut bicone beads. Not only does our website sell all the supplies necessary to make your favourite beading project: we also have a great selection (over 100 at last count) of free projects to download. Projects range in difficulty, and are available for earrings, bracelets, necklaces and other projects (such as watches, mobile phone danglers, cat collars and the like).
